PKAero 0 #1 Posted July 22, 2010 Hi Guys: I had a former Briggs&Stratton engineer tell me that the industry standard for rating H.P. changed back in the early 80's. The old H.P. rating was based on the engine's governed rpm (normal operating rpms), but they changed it to rate the H.P. at rpms at which the engine comes apart (usally thrown rod). Is this why you see engines on the modern "stamped tin" lawn mowers rated at 15-25 H.P. or so? Anybody herd of this?
Coadster32 793 #2 Posted July 22, 2010  Yeah, there was actually a class action lawsuit on this. A few months ago, there was a thread on this forum about it. Use the search feature, and you should come across it.
