bmuone 15 #27 Posted July 16, 2009 Hey Jason that is a good one. I read every post and did not notice they were from the past until I got to yours. Just goes to show you old books are good as new ones. Tractors to. I have no theme but I'm thinking I like the WH as a tractor and not a mower. A few pop up every now and then down here. And they seem to be in the 1985 and newer range. WH must have had a Southern exposition about that time. Have a goodun...Dayton
fireman 1,022 #28 Posted July 16, 2009 OK I'll bite. I prefer the older line, Ponds thru 1967. They had a certain style and grace about them. The newer ones started to just look like all the others. Also like the D series. Here is my top 10 all-star list: 1. Pond Lever Steer 2. Ride-Away Senior 3. RJ25 4. RJ35 5. RJ58 (Already have two) 6. Suburbans (Already have 1961 401) 7. 60's Round Hood (Already have 1962 702) 8. Mid 60's (Already have 1967 1077) 9. 1973 18 Automatic 10. D series (Already have 1979 D200) Just my $.
jusjeepn 59 #29 Posted July 16, 2009 My theme has been Electro. Since W/H only made these 3 years it wasn't a great challenge but was a challenge! I just got my 68 a month ago and it had to come from PA. Since I completed this theme I have turned to attachments! I have 27 total but still do not have all that I am looking for. I do have 11 total tractor which is over my limit of 7, but looking for attachments you run across some really good deals, most to hard to turn down. Most are just "projects" that will eventually be sold off or traded for the next project.
HorseFixer 2,013 #30 Posted July 18, 2009 I am prolly just looking for a senior and maybe a couple more R Hd's to polish off my collection. My theme as everyone knows are R Hd's. Eventually I will most likely thin my herd to 18 and like steve 500 spcl mentioned I will get rid of the duplicates. I can see a couple Fun built up Project Tractors in the collection someday also. :thumbs2:
bo dawg 517 #31 Posted July 18, 2009 I guess I never thought about a theme. If I had the money more often I would buy what ever I like that was priced right. I started with my first one to mow with and then kinda liked the idea of having more than one. But its the money issue, so I wont be having a collection of many, just 2 or 3 workers. I favor Chargers and the C's, ( must be something about the letter C) My main goal is to have one big C auto for mowing, one C 8 speed for the extra work, then a Charger to play around on. Then I think I would be content with keeping up with them. Single Kohler is a must, but I wouldn't mind having a twin maybe to mow with. :thumbs2:
Red Iron 1 #32 Posted July 18, 2009 I'll have to settle for Red Iron theme, for now... :thumbs2:
Raider12 13 #33 Posted July 18, 2009 Well, my first Wheel Horse is my Raider 12. I purchased this for a $100 from the original owner at the same time I purchased his house (20 yrs ago). And I do prefer 12hp and up machines as well as the Raider and "C" series. But I really do LOVE my 520H. I would very much like to add another 520 or 518 etc to my collection in the future. But as for a theme? Well I guess it would have to be called a....."Tick my wife off theme"......... And trust me when I say it can be VERY effective"........ She just don't get it! bitten 134 #34 Posted July 18, 2009 Never thought about it as a theme. As I reflect on it, I am parshoul to: Ones that I can afford ( right now it would have to be free) The higher H/P ( right now the lowest is 10 ) Big tires ( for the garden and snow removel) Ones that I dont have ( way to many) Ones that I dont have to drive far for( hate to travel) I do like the ones that are uniqu to me. I guess there really isnt a theme right now but I can see where there would be with more money and time. If I had the money it would take and someone to go get them for me I would probly try to have one of each( come on lottery ).
whfan74 2,071 #35 Posted July 18, 2009 Very interesting thread.......I have really enjoyed reading up on everyone's responses. I am not sure if I have a theme either. Of course they are all red. Initially I started out by grabbing whatever looked to be a good deal. Over the last few months I have become much more picky. I am looking for good package deals and trying to build up my attachments. I don't have a whole lot of those. If I were to say I had a theme I would like to say I had a tractor for every job. Now I know the horses can do about just any job but I would like to designate different tractors for different jobs. Such as.......plow tractor, snowblowing tractor, mowing tractor, etc....... I am on the hunt for more of the rare models.
refracman 167 #36 Posted August 4, 2009 I guess I never thought of haveing a theme before, but since aquiring the lever steer I have decieded on one. The first and last Wheel Horse produced and a significant model from each decade with a major attachment. As for the rest of my collection it will be sold or traded off to buy what I don't have. And narrowing it down will also allow me to move around in my garage! 1 - 1940s) 1946 lever steer ( have it ) 2 - 1950s) 1955 RJ25 or 35 ( in the works) 3 - 1960s) 1969 GT14 w/ fel ( have it) 4 - 1970s) 1976 C160 w/ 2 pc cultivator ( have it) 5 - 1980s) 1984 C195 w/ tiller ( need tiller) 6 - 1990s) 1990 520h ( have tractor need attachment idea) 7 - 2000s) 2007 314 Just have to convince boss that i need this one :thumbs2:
CasualObserver 3,411 #37 Posted July 3, 2012 Re-reading some old topics brought this one back to mind. It hasn't surfaced in a while, and with so many new members, I'd be interested in seeing some new replies. Does your collection have a theme or do you just buy anything red you can manage to find? AMC RULES 37,196 #38 Posted July 3, 2012 Currently, I have a two Kohler's, a Briggs, one Onan, and a Tecumseh. Ultimately, I think it would be kinda neat to own at least one example of each engine manufacturer offered throughout the years. So what's left...a Clinton? OH...and a Lauson too...I think? :scratchead:

Rooster 192 #40 Posted July 3, 2012 I Have an unintended theme: I have 2-856's, a 1056 & a 1046.. Apparently the year 1966 meant something to the fella that started this collection? lol My "theme" however is this: It has to make me say "Hey, that's kinda cool" In other words, if I like it, I get it! What I am working towards in my collection is diversity. And yes, that means some of those "Off color" tractors too...any of you have any Bush Hog GT's? Yep, I like those Mid-sixties - Keeping an *56 and the 1046 so I have a short and Long frame of those, Will probably keep my Raider 9 because it is a little bit different? But one 856 & the 1056 will probably go to make room for something different - I don't need 2 tractors the same, I would not know which one to get on. Then as a "Side theme", will be my Heard of Suburbans...you cannot have too many Round hoods!
Ken B 3,189 #41 Posted July 3, 2012 If it has a round hood, then I like it. I think the theme of my collection is more accidental than it is intentional. While hanging out in my little Horse Shack with my 10 yr. old son Cole he came up with this. He says, "ya know Dad, Wheel Horse kinda started with the RJ 35 we have and they kinda ended with the 520 that we have" Yup, right or wrong I'm going with that.
Pollack Pete 2,273 #42 Posted July 3, 2012 I like any Wheel Horse that has 4 tires.

WH Raider10 17 #44 Posted July 3, 2012 I just saw this topic and I'm glad someone made this topic. I do have my own theme that goes as this: -NO c-series except the ones with battery behind engine, the older c-series. -NO black hoods anymore,LOL. -Only wheelhorses with the battery behind engine, and small gastanks. -I prefer older models from the 60's, like my commando 8 I just bought. Further most models from the 70's. My dream is to own a RJ-58. -I do like the 300,400 and 500 series, they're my workers. Price tractors: 400 EUR max, it's always my goal to not go higher than that. Implements: 150 EUR max. In my shed only KOHLER and ONAN engines! LOL P-J from Belgium
bowtieguy 334 #45 Posted July 3, 2012 Steve...has your "theme" changed since your first post (and the last election)...might be time for a new "theme"!!!
Don1977 605 #46 Posted July 4, 2012 No theme. My collection consist of a Wheel Horse, John Deere farm tractor that was my Dad's, and a Ford that I built from 1960 and 1970 Ford parts and still need the right engine for it.

rmaynard 16,291 #48 Posted July 4, 2012 I think Jeff (fireman) may want to update his have it/want it list now that he has his senior. I had a theme B-100, B-100, B-100, but now the theme has blurred a bit. Still have 2 B-100's. but have added a Commando 8 and a Charger 10. Still thinking that a round hood would round out the herd nicely.
