magneto removal

Recommended Posts

JUSS10

ok so i am working on cleaning up the magneto on my K181 pullstart. i got the coil removed as that was held on with spring clips. I'm trying to figure out how to remove the magnet on the flywheel. it looks like its just a keyed unit that pulls off but i dont want to break something. i looked in the manual but couldn't find anything on it. its the round piece on the crank in this photo

not yet. but its pretty bad. i can see the coil windings through the cracks. I found new ones for around $30 but they don't look right. i can't find any that are a perfect match.

P/N 230075 is the coil you need.

Here's the best help I (well, actually Bob Taylor) can offer:

http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=6976 - a few posts down.

Another option is to change everything from the bearing plate out over to the newer style mag. (like used on a B-60 Horse or a Troy Bilt tiller engine)
