mr.pipes 4 #1 Posted July 16, 2010 Looking to get your 2-cents. I am looking at a 520H for my first real WH. When throttling all the way up it just cracks 3000 rpm. Is this normal? I was expecting 3500rpm. Would this be a carb, gov, or tired engine problem. Only a few seconds of smoke on startup and throttle up. Hydro dipstick was broken (cap to rod weld). Could this let dirt or anything into hydro and cause problems? Any input or ideas for what to look at would be great. Problems with the onan or hydro would make this a real expensive lawn ornament. Oh yeah, its 1990 with 800 hrs. Thanks
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,536 #2 Posted July 16, 2010  The rpm should be around 3500 but that is a simple fix by adjusting the holding clamp on the throttle cable up a bit. 800 hours on the onan is fine. They are sxpensive to get parts for. Run it for a while and get the hydro fluid good and hot then try going up a hill and see what poer you have. That will give you a good indication of the condition of the hydro. The onan is a great motor when it runs right but can be a problem to repair. Others will give their opinions.
