Lawn Ranger kid 14 #1 Posted July 12, 2010 Last week I picked up this original RJ58 with the serial tag still intact for FREE . The tractor was bought new by my dads uncle. it was used for about five years untill the tranny broke and sat in a barn untill last week. It is complete including all gards and sheilds. The engine and all the other moving parts were froze up but all came lose with a little blaster including the engine. I got another tranny while I was at the show and combined parts to make one good tranny. The engine will need rebuilt and it needs some paint. I hope to restore it this winter. This puts me up to 8 tractors . Thanks Josh Enjoy the pics

Lawn Ranger kid 14 #3 Posted July 12, 2010 Question for the experts are the seat and gas cap orignal. It will definitly need some new front tires. You can see the tube popping out the side of them. Thanks Josh
DMK855 15 #4 Posted July 12, 2010 Nice original RJ!! As for the seat, my RJ has the same seat with no holes!! I would have to say no on the gas cap though!!
Roger from southern Iowa 1 #5 Posted July 12, 2010 I have no idea about the technical stuff, but, It always puts a smile on my face to see a machine staying in the family for another generation. I"m very glad your 8th tractor is this one. Congrats!! :D

stevebo-(Moderator) 8,059 #7 Posted July 13, 2010 This is a tough call. It has the 58 sticker on the frame (id tag) however it has the traits of a 59.... Selector lift handle and solid seat pan Do not mean to stir things up but anyone have an opinion on this?? ps nice tractor Josh !! :D
Lawn Ranger kid 14 #8 Posted July 13, 2010 I was wondering about the lift selector to. Josh

linen beige 14 #10 Posted July 16, 2010 Can you get us a better pic of the lift sector? This is the first one I've seen that doesn't also have cutouts along the bottom edge. This one is bolted on, so it could easily be a later addition. Also, this tractor, at least the hood, HAS been painted (neat "on/off" labels), and you're missing the guard for the deck drive belt. The seat may very well be original, it looks to be the deeper dish style that was used first, but the gas cap isn't.
Lawn Ranger kid 14 #11 Posted July 16, 2010 I will try and get a picture tomorow or Saturday. Josh
Lawn Ranger kid 14 #12 Posted July 17, 2010 Hope this helps. Another question is there a way to tell the difference in the k90 and k91. Mine does not have a tag on it? Josh
MikesRJ 552 #13 Posted July 17, 2010 Another question is there a way to tell the difference in the k90 and k91. Take a look at the engine's head. Are the fins on the head straight across the engine left to right, or are they angled? Angled fins indicate a K90, straight a K91. The oil bath air filter sort of indicates a K90, but the bowl on the carburetor does not. Early K90's came with a round bowl and float attached to a Carter N carburetor, kind of shaped like half a tennis ball. Any of these parts could have been replaced in the last 50+ years. Here's the manual for the K90, may be some help to you (10/8/1954 printing), http://www.mywheelhorse.com/graphics/file/..._K90_OM&IPL.pdf Take a few more pictures of the engine from different angles, maybe we can see more of what you have there.
