Belt number confusion

Hi guys/gals;

Quick question. . . I just broke the drive belt on my 310-8 (likely the original from

1988), looked up the part number on Toro, and it gave #7473. I then looked up

the drive belt number for my 1985/6 416-8 to see if I could swap from the 416,

and it gave me part number 108501. Looking further it looks like the part number

for the early 300 and 400 series are 108501, and the later tractors the part number

is 7473.

Is this a part number change or an actual belt difference?

Any thoughts?

The MPV at Toro sucks when it comes to looking up belts because - more often than not - it lumps many models together.

PartsTree.com is usually better than the Toro MPV but is in no way guaranteed to be 100% accurate either.

The correct belt for the 310-8 is #7473 and that is the same belt used on the 416 you mentioned.

108501 is the drive belt for the 312-A, H, 418-A, C, etc. (automatics)

I certainly don't think the Toro site differentiates between the autos and the

8 speeds, though I was wondering that myself.

The part # 7473 Drive belt is the same for my 1972 12 HP Raider 12.

I think any 4 speed / 6,8 speed with the same frame as the 312-8, 314-8, 412-8,

414-8 manual trans. whould be the same....

It need to be the type that you can see the fibers in, I tried a gates drive belt and

when it engauged, talking about pulling wheelies.. :thumbs:

Just bought the new belt at the local WH dealer. Knew exactly what I

needed. $24. A bargain.

 Fwiw for future- 

 After reading a bit on WH belts I discovered the auto/manual speed tractors use different belts from their having different angles in their pulley grooves so get the correct belt when needed there. 

 

  Regardless what belt you buy make sure it sets down in the pulley groove. Many aftermarket belts don't do this well enough' so here again it's due to the WH pulley design so they slip.

 The reason so many WH owners recommend OEM belts.
