massey 119 #1 Posted July 9, 2010 I am going to rebuild a K341, it will need the crank turned and bored so I will need a piston/rings and a rod and gaskets/seal, and may need to replace the bearings also. Where do you guys buy these parts? Thanks for any recommendations. Ed
Butch 194 #2 Posted July 9, 2010 http://www.rcpw.com/ http://www.partstree.com/parts/ http://www.m-and-d.com/index.html I've used all 3 off these places depending on who HAD the part and who had it cheaper. You might be able to find the piston kit on EBay also. The cheaper priced generic piston and rod you see on EBay are not near the quality of original Kohler parts. The generic brand looked inferior compared to the Kohler parts. You get what you pay for holds true here. Butch S. Jersey

massey 119 #4 Posted July 9, 2010 Ok thanks for the replys. DO you recommend Kohler only for these parts or are the aftermarket parts up to the OEM quality? Ed Edit, just read the rest of your reply Butch

Butch 194 #7 Posted July 9, 2010 As for the piston, con rod and rings I like the Kohler OEM much better but you do pay more. I did buy a generic brand off ebay and the seller had sold quite a few and said he never had a piston or rod go yet. They looked awful cheap to me compared to the Kohler parts I took out. So I ordered an OEM Kohler piston, rings and rod set. To me it was worth the money and I could sleep better. Looking at both side by side you most definitely can tell you get what you pay for. The generics may last forever but I didn't like the looks of the quality. I like OEM and will stick with them. Other companies may make quality parts but I haven't come across them. I can't think of the name right off but there is a piston company that makes a lot of pistons for motorcycles. I think I may have looked at them at the time. Butch S. rick 246 #8 Posted July 10, 2010 I use OEM parts in my personal small engine equipment, and also for customer work. OEM Kohler parts are available from NAPA stores, it helps if you have a business account at the store, or have a friend with an account or a small engine business.
