canam1991 2 #1 Posted July 3, 2010 Whats there to look for in a 520 that might be wore out?
wedgeheaded 0 #2 Posted July 4, 2010 I bought a 93 520H w/60" deck off of Ebay several years ago for $1340. I used is regularly for probably 4 yrs and sold it for $1250. Mine had nearly 1200hrs on it and outside of fluids, filters, plugs, etc. I never did anything major to it. I did have to replace the forward reverse lever as mine broke off. I mow 1.5 acre that has lots of hills and banks, it mowed great and was very reliable. I know it's very important to keep the hydro filled and cool. Make sure the fan is in good condition on the side of the unit. Check the wiring for signs of trouble, mine had been cobbled behind the cover plate below the dash (has the F/R and PTO decals) but worked fine. I just didn't have much trouble with mine, it was a good old horse, I miss it. http://www.dotphoto.com/go.asp?l=wedgeheaded&AID=6163504
rickv1957 75 #3 Posted July 4, 2010 I would say the electrical is a thing to look at on the 520s to see its operating condition and if repairs have been made correctly,Rick
zieg72 209 #4 Posted July 4, 2010 Electrical is the only real issues other than the Onan engine itself. If they have had their oil changed and kept clean from grass build up they will last forever. Problem seems to be either the electrical or the rear cylinder dropping a valve seat. I have 2 that are just great machines.
