boatman 3 #1 Posted July 2, 2010 :D Just used my 416-8 for first time to mow. After about 20 minutes of mowing It started having a metalic knocking and lost power. It sounded like a valve hamering not a rod. I parked tractor overnite and started it this morning and it sounded fine and ran ok. It has a fresh oil change (penns oil 30w) new air cleaner. Oil is full. Any ideas of what might be causing this? engine is a k series single cylinder 16hp and has 1625 hrs. It doesn't use oil or smoke. Will appreciate any ideas of what it could be. Air screen on fly wheel is clean so it was getting air ok. Thanks

boatman 3 #3 Posted July 3, 2010 :D Thanks I will valve clearance. WEnt out today and started engine and there was no noise.Imowed grass for two hrs and tractor didn't make any noise. I put some transmission oil in gas to maybe help clean and lube upper end. One thing it was doing was every little bit it would seem to sound like it was laboing a little and governer would open a little then it would quit. REally didn't see any differnce in grass hieght to cause this.
