JUSS10 250 #2 Posted July 1, 2010 i'm going to tell you what everyone told me when i asked the same question. its worth what you are willing to pay for it. what do you feel its worth? thats what you should ask. i know the lure of round hoods is strong. out of the last 10 I've looked at, i've turned down 7. just my two cents on the question
Duff 206 #3 Posted July 1, 2010 Justin's pretty much on the mark here. There are so darn many variables when it comes to pricing tractors that no one can give you a completely accurate price (or for that matter, even a close approximation). Age, model, condition, completeness, your area, the economy, time of year, the weather.....all of these factor into it. I know it sounds pretty smart-ass, but almost every member here has seen tractor prices that were either stupidly high or blessedly cheap. So our collective wisdom boils down to, as many have said, is the value is what it's worth to you. Best wishes, Duff
JUSS10 250 #4 Posted July 2, 2010 just to help though here is a picture of the three i have recently bought and how much i paid. from left to right: 854, didn't know if it ran, custom mower deck, missing a few parts but overall solid $200 603, was told it had a rebuilt motor with 50 hrs on it and a rebuilt trans. came with solid mower deck and snow plow $300 704, owner started it for me and drove it on the trailer, missing a few parts, trans jams every now and then even after reseting shift forks, crummy pull start $150 all of these i drove over 2 hrs one way to get, so you have to factor in fuel costs as well. all three of these i walked away and didn't feel regret in the purchase i made, to me, they felt like a good deal (see how i said to ME?) I'm also looking at a pair for $450 that is only an hour away. i feel a little resilient to spend even that much on them just from the pictures I've seen but one has all the panels and AG tires and the other is an 8hp kohler power tractor. So you can use this as a "scale" or not, just thought i would help by giving you a visual scale with prices. but to be honest, these things are so cool so buying one and saving it is hard to put a price on. good luck with the buy
HankB 16 #5 Posted July 2, 2010 The closest thing I know of is to watch eBay and track what other similar models sell for. You still have to take into consideration condition and location as well as the fact that bidding wars sometimes break out, but it will give a ballpark estimate of what someone else was willing to pay. Dang... I was watching a rear axle bracket that was bid up to $4 ... Oh wait, it finally went for $52.51 + shipping. I guess I didn't miss out on a super deal. In the end, it matters what it is worth to you.
Roger from southern Iowa 1 #6 Posted July 2, 2010 Justin, From the looks of the three you have, you are my hero!! I think I should have you buying horses for me. You're doing just fine in my book,
JUSS10 250 #7 Posted July 2, 2010 yeah i'm doing pretty good. but like i said there are quite a few that i have had to walk away on because i wasn't willing to pay what they wanted, but somebody else was because i usually follow up and most eventually sell... so once again to prove a point, its all about how bad you want it and how much you are willing to dish out
