tmix 34 #1 Posted June 30, 2010 The Old Lady was cutting grass the other day, I could hear a funny sound coming from the lawn mower could not figure what it was. I had her stop a few times could not hear the sound only when she was cutting every now and then i could hear it . The deck is a 36" model 5 2362 Serial 528808 Come to find out the blades are hitting each other every now and then. Are these blades suppose to be straight across from each other or opposite from each other . They are straight right now they are gear driven AND SUGGESTIONS !!!! rickv1957 75 #4 Posted July 1, 2010 Been a while on the gear drives but I think you can remove gear cover, remove snap ring, drop down spindle and rotate,Rick
dkopp 1 #5 Posted July 1, 2010 Check for missing teeth and or count the number of teeth on both the face and spur gears.
WH nut 553 #6 Posted July 1, 2010 The problem with removing the snap ring is the wooddruff key. Ypu either need to loosen up the top mounting and raise the side gear or grind the key down a little to get the clearance. If its out of time, either the teeth are worn, or the cast mounting is broken
Jim_M 179 #7 Posted July 1, 2010 The first thing I would check is the woodruff key. It's probably sheared.
