use of actual tractor muffler

for those who run a stack style muffler like a larger tractor would use, what size do you use? what tractor was it originally for? my dad wants to throw one on his tractor and was wondering what you all use.

A muffler designed for an old farmall cub would be about the right size,Rick

A couple of days ago I installed a Farmall Cub muffler on my 1257. It is a Stanly IH-1 with a 1 3/8" ID which is a little loose on the 1" exhaust pipe. I took up the extra space with muffler patch tape on the galvanized pipe and clamped the muffler on. It worked, but I think cutting the small tabs off the bottom of the muffler and having it welded on would be a better way to go. There is also a post one here (somewhere) about using a Gravley muffler as well.

If you want the look of the stack it worked well. If you are wanting to muffle the engine it worked OK. The sound is deeper and some what quieter, but not much.
