rueger-99 0 #1 Posted June 28, 2010 Pulled apart my c120 today to freshen her up a bit. I found the frame/rear-end mounting plate with cracks in it. Do I just grind and weld over the cracks or should I weld some stock to the backside? Anyone have a picture of a repair? Someone named paul wrote on my rear-end... I'm wondering if I might have a members old machine. Chris
rmaynard 16,299 #2 Posted June 28, 2010 Here is mine: Ground the cracks into "V's", welded, then placed 1/4" steel plate on front side of mount and tacked it in place. Drilled 3/8" holes and used bolts that were 3/8" longer to mount tranny. Bob

wallfish 18,117 #12 Posted June 29, 2010 Do what Bob did "Ground the cracks into "V's", welded, then placed 1/4" steel plate on" that should fix both problems
KC9KAS 4,744 #13 Posted June 29, 2010 And don't let PAUL (or anyone else) write on your rear-end anymore!
bo dawg 518 #14 Posted June 30, 2010 Aw, you guy's really know how to make a guy feel good.... maybe not like Paul did. But it was pretty good stuff But alright, he did ask an honest question. Chris I don't think it used to belong to anyone on here, maybe some body rebuilt the rear end and signed it
rueger-99 0 #15 Posted June 30, 2010 I knew where this thread would go as soon as I posted it....I've been lurking long enough. Thanks for the pics rmaynard. I'm thinking of welding 2 strips of 1/4 stock horizontal, if I went with a large single piece it wouldn't sit flat because of the stamping on the mounting plate. linen beige 15 #16 Posted July 4, 2010 You want to put your reinforcement on the FRONT of the tranny mount, inside the frame. That way it doesn't change the distance between the engine pulley and tranny pulley, which would cause a need for a longer drive belt. OH! Perhaps Paul wasn't a former owner, just a crack inspector? stevasaurus 23,281 #17 Posted July 4, 2010 CharlieD250 and his dad (Paul) rebuild tranny's...maybe one of theirs...would have to find out if he signs them when finished. At least it didn't say "Welcome Aboard".
