Tiller Help

Hello,

Just picked up a 36" tiller (07-36TL01) for my C-160 but I'm curious on how to rig up the lifting mechanism. I have a lift cable already because my c160 has the clevis style hitch (which i have removed). In looking at the parts list on the Toro site, #12 Lever R Assembly, is shown. I'm trying to figure out where i would install this piece on the tractor. I don't see anywhere to put it without having to drill holes. Or can i just connect the lift chain to the lift cable and clevis link. If someone has a pic of this similar setup, could you post. i got the tiller and a bag of parts so i'm trying to get them all in the right place. i can post a pic of my setup tonight if i need to.

thanks,

M

I have a short piece of chain from the cable to the tiller, it works fine, it would be easier with the bell crank, and easier to adjust the height you can raise it, but like I said it works.

Ok thanks, i will just go with the chain to cable. What is the proper setup for the c-160 (8-speed, not hydro)? Drill holes to mount that bellcrank or is there some other setup to use?

The bellcrank assembly wasn't used on garden tractors prior to 1976. It is designed to mount between the uprights on the fender bracket on the tractors with solid-mounted fenders & the flip-up seat..

The 1975 & earlier (back to 1972 or 1973, I think) tractors with the flip-up fender had the lift cable directly attached to a lift arm on the tiller mounting frame.

You'll kind of have to ad-lib a little when using a newer tiller on a pre-'76 tractor.

Ok, the tiller is mounted after getting and installing the axle mount. Next question, apparently the belt that come with the tiller it too short. i have to unhook the left side of the idler mount from tach-a-matic, put the belt on, then lock the idler mount back in. the belt jumps off the small idler tensioner pulley almost immediately and i don't even need the spring for tension. My c-160 is a '75 model, the tiller is an '80-'83 model. Order the belt for that tiller or do I need to order a belt for a '75 model tiller or are they the same? What should the length be for that belt?

:thumbs::D

Thanks,

M

Oh and happy 4th! :D

I am running that tiller on my 2005 Classic GT 315-8. The belt I ended up using was the #1599 belt. My brother has ordered parts from my 2005 to put on his 75 C 160-8 and had them fit like they were made for it. My guess would be the 1599 belt which is 139". I can't say that would be the belt for you with 100% accuracy. I can tell you that the OEM belt are of much better quality than the aftermarkets, but aftermarkets may be the way to go until you find the right sized belt. I would definantly check out the 1599 belt, it seems to be the right one for a lot of applications. Good luck let us know how it turns out.

Ok, so I sprung for the NAPA belt for now and it fit perfect. Now that I know the 139" belt works, I will go for the 1599 belt later, if this one starts to give trouble. Got the belt on and tried the tiller out for the first time. Works great.

Thanks for the help, great site!

I always knew  's were awesome, now, even more so!

I do have separate question but will post in the tractor forum.

Well I got most of what I wanted plowed last night but will have more to do maybe next week, especially if we get some much needed rain this weekend. I will try to get something posted.

Thanks,
