653 Gas Tank

Recommended Posts

I'm wanting to buy a set of those nifty thumbscrews, but don't see what they thread into on the tank. I think I'm missing brackets or something.

Would like see a picture of a tank that has the thumbscrews installed.

Thanks for the help!

I have the same problem with the tank on my 653, there is supposed to be a tab with a hole but they are almost always broken off. I was going to take mine to a welding shop and have a new tab welded on since the tank is aluminum I am unable to do it myself. I don't have pictures of what they are supposed to look like since mine are broken but try the link below.

BTW I purchased a set of the thumbscrews for mine from a member here and they are very nice quality.

Hi Rob I sell the thumb screws your looking to buy. I don't have a picture at this time of the tank but I have seen many tanks with the spots broke out where the thread inserts go.

I had the same problem with our 753. I bought a nut with the correct thread, mixed up some JB weld and filled in the area around the nut with the JB weld and made it nice and smooth. Once painted it looks like new.

That does sound like a good idea.
