rueger-99 0 #1 Posted June 22, 2010 I've been keeping an eye on Craigslist for the last month looking for a 42" deck. Well....Today I found one locally from a New C165 owner that just wanted to pull the grandkids around in a wagon with. It's in beautiful shape , but doesn't cut worth $H!t! Can you guys help me out? CasualObserver 3,411 #2 Posted June 22, 2010 Turn the blades over, they're on upside down.
rueger-99 0 #3 Posted June 22, 2010 Turn the blades over, they're on upside down. I figured on at least a couple post before someone saw that. Party POOPER! :D
dcrage 630 #4 Posted June 22, 2010 I did that one time on my 37" SD -- And it STILL CUT GRASS -- It was a little bit worse because I started trying to figure out why it didn't look as clean -- But the grass was still cut -- But then that is kinda of analogous to the people who never sharpen their blades -- You get something spinning fast enough under there and the grass get cut off Dave Imperial, MO 310-8, 37" SD, 42" blade

bo dawg 518 #6 Posted June 22, 2010 May not hurt to get some new blades too, looks like those have been shapened quite a few times.
squonk 43,843 #7 Posted June 22, 2010 I tried that once. Bought brand new blades and wasn't paying attention and mounted them backwards. Never made it out of the shop. They were dragging on the concrete.
wheel horse 1045 2 #8 Posted June 22, 2010 i bought a tractor once from a guy that said it has a bad mower deck cause it wont cut worth crap and got it for a 100 and it was a C120 with a 48inch deck,i love mistakes like that

tgranthamfd 29 #10 Posted June 23, 2010 I finally figured out 1 problem, on here, and everybody else beat me to it. Deck looks solid.
tgranthamfd 29 #11 Posted June 23, 2010 Looks like the deck turned up side down and the blades forgot to follow. Sorry couldn't resist.
jpmcleod 4 #12 Posted June 23, 2010 Kinda like we all have been there. Did the same thing a few years back. Boy did I feel stupid. I have always wondered though why a dull blade won't cut as good as a weed eater.
Herbl 10 #13 Posted June 23, 2010 The difference between a mower deck and a weedeater is the speed of the blade, slow the weadeater down and watch it just beat the grass/weeds to death...
Craig Arndt 6 #14 Posted June 23, 2010 That deck is in beautiful shape. What did you spray underneath? Looks shiny.
rueger-99 0 #15 Posted June 23, 2010 That deck is in beautiful shape. What did you spray underneath? Looks shiny. It's just wet from when I cleaned it up. I think after this season I'll wire wheel the bottom and put a coat of POR-15 on it.
DoctorHfuhruhurr 137 #16 Posted June 23, 2010 I've never done that because I'm perfect in every way
Duff 206 #17 Posted June 24, 2010 My best friend, God love him, is about as mechanically inclined as a turnip by his own admission. I sharpen his blades for him. The only way he can remember which way to bolt them back onto the deck (he is capable of doing that much himself!) is to write on them with a big Magic Marker - "GROUND SIDE" and "TRACTOR SIDE"! I used to LMAO about this until I bought a set of new blades recently that had factory-stamped in the steel, "Ground Side". Hmmmmmmm.......
