12 hp kohler

I have a 1976 C-120 with a Kohler k301s

Engine loses power under load while moving and mowing.

Starts fine and will run up to speed, will also run fine just while driving or while the mower deck is engaged but if you go to do both at the same time it will lose power and engine speed.

New plug, cleaned and adjusted the carb, new points, timing seems fine (set with feeler guage and also with timing light). Pulled the head and visually everything looks ok.

Looking for some suggestions or advice. Lawn is getting long!!!

Thanks

Dave

Just a few couple thoughts:

Has the govener been adjusted?

Do you have an inline fuel filter, mabe partially plugged?

I have not touched the govenor so while I cant say that it is set correctly I dont know how it would have changed.

There does not appear to be a fuel filter.

Could there be a problem with the fuel pump?

Also I dont know if there is a way to check the coil.

Thanks for the welcome and for the suggestions so far

Dave

I would check the governor first. From the factory, the spring is set in the 2nd hole from the bottom on the governor arm, and 3rd hole from top on the throttle arm. Try placing the spring in the 3rd hole on both. Sometimes the spring will get weak and this will improve sensitivity.

I had the same problem on my K241S and that fixed it.

Thanks for all the tips so far.

Carb is now adjusted again and I have checked the govenor and it is fine.

Still having the same problem.

Any tips on how to check the valves?

My hopes of finding something simple are begining to fade.

Does anyone think it could be a fuel pump or possibly a weak coil?

Thanks again

Dave

Both the fuel pump and the coil are possible, the coil could be breaking down,Rick

This seems too simple, but check to make sure that the vent hole in the top of your gas cap is not clogged.
