brider 0 #1 Posted June 21, 2010 At the risk of giving away a decent deal, look at this posting: http://providence.craigslist.org/tls/1800746323.html I talked to the guy, he insists it's a 520-H, hydro and everything, but looked at the engine while on the phone with me and said the engine said "Kohler, K161, S700853" Everything I looked up about the 520-H says it should be an Onan engine. Could it have been possible for someone to actually swap a K161 into it?
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #2 Posted June 21, 2010 Could it have been possible for someone to actually swap a K161 into it? Absolutely - and from what I can see in the pictures, it's really there. It's probably a little slow & sluggish, but it would eventually get the job done. (forget about running a 42, 48, or 60 inch mower deck though! )

brider 0 #4 Posted June 21, 2010 Absolutely - and from what I can see in the pictures, it's really there. Sooooo, would a larger k-series (K241? K341?) bolt in? The 520-H seems to get great reviews; are the general features desireble enough to consider such a bastard child?
Kelly 1,033 #5 Posted June 21, 2010 You can bolt any K series or magnum in to it with no problem, you may need a bracket or two, and some wiring mods, but nothing hard, I love my 520's but they have 20hp onans in them, a 16hp single would be about perfect. Jim_M 179 #6 Posted June 21, 2010 I have a 520-H with a 13 hp single cyl. diesel. With some imagination you can put whatever you want on it. I don't use the pto clutch though, it's a dedicated loader tractor, so I just run the pump all the time.

brider 0 #8 Posted June 21, 2010 I'm thinking that if it's intact except for the different engine (drive, PTO, and braking all work), I might consider it to swap the sweet-running Kohler k-series 14 hp out of my tired Cub Cadet into. That 14-hp Kohler spun a 44-in deck no problem, and also a snowthrower and dirt blade.

brider 0 #10 Posted June 22, 2010 I think I'm going to go out tomorrow and check it out. I THINK it's missing the mule drive and PTO actuator and pressure plate/disc/pulley. Clueless owner got it from someone else and just used it for pushing snow, said "...the PTO is all there because it drives the pump to actuate the blade lift...". I know better, but I think it's worth a look, 'specially since I have a 14 hp Kohler to bolt in... Will the 520-H take a standard mule drive and Attach-a-matic deck? Kelly 1,033 #11 Posted June 22, 2010 Just so you know a Cub engine will not fit with out mods, first it take the wrong oil pan, you can mount it on a shaker plate from a WH and add the mounting blocks to the frame, then 90% of cubs have a 1" crank, you will need a PTO sleave from a 8hp kohler so you can mount a PTO on it. brider 0 #12 Posted June 23, 2010 then 90% of cubs have a 1" crank, you will need a PTO sleave from a 8hp kohler so you can mount a PTO on it THAT'S a good bit of info. Still, if it has a Kohler in it now, I should be able to bolt up mine. BTW, I couldn't get out to look at it today. Question remains: Does a 520-H take a standard Attach-a-matic mule drive and deck? Buzz 502 #14 Posted June 23, 2010 Let's see.....you asked the question Sunday night, it's Tuesday night now, I wonder if it's still there Did you read this post?: http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=19388
brider 0 #15 Posted June 23, 2010 Went and looked at the tractor today. A ragged-out mess. Wiring was a rat's nest, K161 was mounted with a plate of steel, no PTO, no mule drive, rear tires were different sizes, etc, etc.. I coudn't even make an offer, and I felt bad for the guy, I kinda sensed he needed the cash. Oh well, maybe next time...
