HankB 16 #1 Posted June 13, 2010 I've got a 42" recycler deck and I'm wondering if there is a better way to clean it out than reaching under it and scraping with my hand. I see that some decks have cleanout ports that you can attach a garden hose to but that would have penetrate both deck and recycler insert to do any good. I was thinking of making something with a piece of pipe that I could roll over that would spray up under the deck. OTOH, Anything that puts water between the deck and baffle could lead to rust problems down the road. Maybe I should just deal with the grass stained arm and leave it at that. For anyone unfamiliar with the recycler, here's a graphic of the baffle that fits under the deck:

HankB 16 #4 Posted June 13, 2010 Thanks for the detailed diagram. That will help when I fix up my 42" RD and covert it to a recycling deck. Go to https://lookup3.toro.com/request/request.cfm, enter 78355 for the model number and 5900001 for the serial number and you can download the complete set of manuals. (Or try the numbers from your deck.) If you have a power washer, they work great!,Rick That sounds like a good end of season solution when the deck has been removed from the tractor. Does your power washer reach up under the deck with it mounted? I don't (yet) have a power washer. thanks, hank
Horse Fanatic 51 #5 Posted June 14, 2010 When I clean my deck I either use a floor jack and lift the front up or use my chain fall to lift the front. Either way, cleaning the deck is a breeze.
papaglide 542 #6 Posted June 14, 2010 I just take my deck off after every 2 cuttings and use a putty knife and hose. Only takes 5 minutes for me to get it off. I stand it up and lean it against my barn and clean it. If it isn't raining I just let it stay up on end until I need it again which is usually every 4th day. Only takes me 5 minutes to get it back on. :D
stoneman 10 #7 Posted June 14, 2010 go to www.slipplate.com This will make life easier, i guarantee it. I removed my deck, and cleaned it with a wire brush . (air pistol) then i applied two coats of slip plate to the entire area. if i cut dry grass, there is absolutely no build up. if the grass is wet, i hit it with the hose and everything rinses away quickly. this application should last you through 1 season . . . and is well worth the effort. . . . scott
