rydogg 186 #1 Posted June 10, 2010 I am thinking of going to look at this horse but I would like to know what it could be. The owner says it is a 1966 model but I believe with the round fenders it should be a 64 or older. Just wondering if someone can identify so I know what it is. Looks like it may be a lawn ranger but the rims look to be 12 inch. It has no motor but is otherwise complete, he is asking $100 which I think is a fair price. I have quite a few kohlers just laying around here so I thought I would give it a new life. Thanks for your help Ryan
JUSS10 250 #2 Posted June 10, 2010 looks pretty similar to my 704. i'm looking at the "dash" where the cables are and the flat panel that runs to it from the shifter looks just like mine.

rydogg 186 #4 Posted June 10, 2010 I think you guys are right a 704 would be great since I have a couple k161 motors looking for chassis. Thanks for the help.
VinsRJ 723 #5 Posted June 10, 2010 With a K161 painted black it would look pretty cool IMO.
rydogg 186 #6 Posted June 10, 2010 Just talked to the owner and I am going to pick it up Saturday morning Its gonna seem like forever Vince: I like that color idea too the k161 motors I have are red and the other is dark blue so neither would work with the current color of the tractor. The steering wheel looks like its from a lawn ranger or is it correct for this tractor? The ones I see in the gallery have the black 2 spoke like my 1055. JUSS10 250 #7 Posted June 10, 2010 yeah pretty sure thats not a 704 steering wheel. mine was all stock when i got it and it has the 2 spoke wheel
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #8 Posted June 10, 2010 I see a battery. I'll say 654. (A Tecumseh will be missing long before a Kohler. )
JUSS10 250 #9 Posted June 10, 2010 Good eye TT. totally missed that.
rydogg 186 #10 Posted June 10, 2010 I think Terry is right on this one. I didn't look close enough at first but now I do see a battery which would make it a 654 since the 704 was a pull start. Oh well either it'll get a 7hp kohler or the search will begin for a h60 tecumseh. One of the k161 kohlers I have has the starter generator and the other is a pull start, either one should fit in there without any major mods shouldn't it? TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #11 Posted June 10, 2010 The Kohler will fit just fine - but it will have to be the one with recoil start. You could do gear-drive electric start with the sloped hood stand, but there isn't much room to do the starter/generator - unless you find a new place for the gas tank. I think you should do the K-161 recoil and just call it a 654 with a 7hp Kohler. :D
MikesRJ 558 #12 Posted June 10, 2010 Make sure to take a camera in case you don;t buy it. Would love to see a few more shots of it. Good luck.
rydogg 186 #13 Posted June 10, 2010 I'm too impatient........so i'm leaving now to get it. I'll post some more pictures when I get it home if it is still light enough.
rydogg 186 #14 Posted June 12, 2010 Well, I went and got it Thursday evening and was gonna post pictures yesterday but I went to South Dakota for fireworks which took up most of the day. I've got a little time now so heres some pictures of her. The hood has been carved out for a different motor but they did a nice job it looks like factory cuts and not just a backyard hack job. You can see that they also tried to make the rear discharge deck a side discharge Does anyone know anything about the Fordson seat like what year or type of tractor it came from?? Not sure what to do with it (restore or use for parts). It will need a hood and belt cover for sure and then just some misc parts. I would rather put an original H60 in it but if I can't find one I will put the k161 pull start motor in it. The tires are in great shape I was expecting them to be weather cracked from sitting outside but I aired them up and could not find one crack so i'm happy about that since I have been looking for some good 6-12 tires and the fronts are just as good. For now shes gonna be put in the shed until I find parts and get time to put it together. Don't worry she won't get lonely the 653 is in the same shed :D
