nylyon-(Admin) 7,882 #1 Posted March 22, 2008 Well all, it looks like Eldon and I may have struck a deal for the C-160 that he just won. As most of you know, I have been looking for a reasonable 1974 preferred C-160 Automatic. When I was a kid, my dad traded in the old Springfield and brought home a brand new 1974 C-160 Automatic, with 36" RD mower, arm rests, parker sweeper and a trailer. I used to mow the lawn with pride every weekend as a kid, loved that tractor, cleaning it, waxing it and just loving to ride it. Since then I have been looking for a C-160, but instead found a C-120 Automatic, then the Electro parts tractor. For terms which include the swapping of C-120 and Electro for C-160, it looks like Eldon and I have an agreement and I will finally get my C-160 Automatic and a 1974 to boot ! I am very grateful for his generosity and for arraigning this trade and really look forward to meeting both Eldon and the C-160.

kj4kicks 154 #6 Posted April 16, 2008 Hi Guys, Finally getting caught up from the road trip, and had a chance to unload the trailer. Here's a little better pic of Karl's new baby: And just to prove that I wasn't the first to rustle it across a border: Looks like he's gonna need a muffler: More pics can be seen HERE Eldon. nylyon-(Admin) 7,882 #7 Posted April 16, 2008 Anyone have an extra muffler laying around that needs to get put to good use? Thank you for posting up the pictures Eldon.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #8 Posted April 16, 2008 Anyone have an extra muffler laying around that needs to get put to good use? Gee, "Coach".... I pictured a nice stack on the 160. You might want to think about getting that reducer bushing out of the exhaust port so that big Kohler can breathe a like it should. (That was Wheel Horse's way of getting out of having to build a special 1 1/4" elbow and muffler.) If you can't find a muffler by the end of June, I'm sure one of us can nab one at the show. (I hope. )
DMESS 24 #9 Posted April 16, 2008 Karl, looks like a good solid machine. Is she going to be a restoration project or a "user"? I remember spending a summer or two helping my grandfather mow a picnic grounds on a 1975 C-160 8 Speed with a 48" mower. That tractor always impressed me with its power and capability. I remember when the people who owned the grounds and tractor had public sale. I was a little sad that day to see the Wheel Horse go. I've thought about finding one from time to time since the only C's we have are the 195's, but I haven't really pursued it. Here was a beauty that fetched a healthy price: ebay C-160 $$$$!!! nylyon-(Admin) 7,882 #10 Posted April 16, 2008 Karl, looks like a good solid machine. Is she going to be a restoration project or a "user"? I would like to say that I am going to restore it, but I am not that good, so let's just say I plan to fix it up. I will plan on changing that hydraulic valve, muffler (sorry TT no stack) new seat, paint it up best I can (my real weak point) and repair the odds and ends. It should look okay, but by no means would I anticipate it looking like any of yours (or my 416 for that matter)
CasualObserver 3,411 #11 Posted April 16, 2008 Dustin... I was watching that one.... it's only about an hour from my parent's back in IL... the price doubled in just the last minute. You know the guy who bought it was probably disappointed that it went so high when he had it at half that five minutes earlier, and the second bidder was shocked he wasn't winning it! (well... unless he was schill bidding it and was just trying to appraise it.)

I take no credit for the paint and body work on our tractors. I'm the eye for detail, but my father does the paintwork.

combatmp29r 27 #14 Posted April 18, 2008 Karl, I've seen her in person It is a very solid straight tractor, and you should have no problem cleaning her up and making a very nice shiny addition to your herd.
