hoppy 0 #1 Posted May 22, 2010 well it seems my list of to do's isnt getting smaller. my fiances aunt drove down her ford tractor she said "it isnt running right". Has a Kohler 14hp #M14AQS in it. spec #601512. here is what i found...................Walbro carb. I was curious as to why when i increased the throttle at the lever nothing change with the motor. i saw the cable moving the arm on the carb but the engine wasnt idling any higher. after further investigation i found the throttle arm brokn at the first screw at the throttle plate. no wonder it wouldnt idle up! the plate was basically all the way closed and since the arm is broken there is no way to get the rev up. i have searched pretty hard online and cant seem to find this part. its a bowl typ walbro carb and i need the arm the throttle plate screws to! anyone? Buzz 502 #2 Posted May 22, 2010 Did you check this site?: http://www.kohlerplus.com/login.asp If you didn't, enter as "guest" then click in the Magnums, then M14 and finally the spec number 601512. There are three drawings for the governor with a breakdown of different linkages. Might help, might not. Is it possible to remove the broken part, have it welded and ground flat? That's might be one way out. Good luck.
hoppy 0 #3 Posted May 23, 2010 here is the piece i am talking about. im assuming this is brass. what can you weld brass with? kinda screwed unless i can find someone to weld it for me or i can find a replacement. will a JB weld material work for this and hold up? linen beige 14 #4 Posted May 23, 2010 If nothing else, you (or a local machinist) can make a new piece from brass rod, available at any good hobby shop.
rick 246 #5 Posted May 23, 2010 Hoppy, see if you can find a number on the carburetor mounting flange like 47 053 64. Failing that, post the engine serial number. I am sure the part you need is Kohler # 47 144 36S, list price $14.53. To be positive, we need the numbers requested..... The question "How/why did the throttle shaft break?" MUST be answered, too. Is the lower end of the shaft frozen in the carburetor casting? Does the machine set out in the weather?
hoppy 0 #6 Posted May 23, 2010 rick, i will get that info up here abit later. i have to go cake taisteing right now. al cake is good so im not sure what trying 20 will do for us but hey one of those things you have to do i guess. not sure why/how it broke. i was easily able to remove the bottom half once i got the plate off. did not appear to be stuck, rusted. when i do align the two halfs up there does look like there is a slight bow/bend in the shaft.......maybe it got hit or maybe the wires have something to do with it? honestly i dont know the history of alot of the machines around here. since i have lived here i have become the "farm mechanic". i do know that these machines are much happier since i moved on the compound. been tuning up and fixing just about everything i can get my hands on. rick 246 #12 Posted May 23, 2010 Congrats, hoppy! I am giving my youngest daughter away this coming Saturday. Kohler part number 47 144 36S is the part you need. Go to a Kohler dealer to get the part, he will most likely have to order it for you. You may want to take along your carburetor and broken shaft, he may have something in the junk box to fix you up. You can order it online, but the shipping will burn you a new one, more than the dealer markup. List price for the shaft is $14.53, shipping is usually @ $7.00 and up. Ask the dealer about freight charges, if you are willing to wait for a stock order, there may not be any. Good luck! PS: looks like you are missing a screw to hold the throttle valve to the shaft?
