nylyon-(Admin) 7,850 #1 Posted March 20, 2008 With the bathroom tile work completed it is time to look towards the C-120. As you may recall, or for those who are new, here is when I first got the C-120. All in all it is complete, but it needs attention and some parts, which is why I picked up the Electro (more on that in a minute). For a little history, in a search for a reasonably priced C-160 Automatic, I ran across this C-120 with the hydraulic lift option installed. It also came with a rear clevis hitch and rear axle hitch which made the $100 price well worth it. It is in pretty good shape, metal is straight with no rust through but there are some parts which need replacement such as the bell crank with lift indicator bar, hydraulic valve which works, but the spring doesn't work on the lower position. and of course there's the engine. The engine runs very strong, starts easily but has a knock which I hope is a rod knock and smokes. It is possible that the cylinder is tapered and the knock is the piston slapping arond in there which makes it burn oil as well. In any event I am planning on tearing it apart to fix both problems. Onto the Electro. The good news is that I am not going to part it out, BUT it will be the donor for the C-120 unless I can source the parts elsewhere. The Electro has a great engine, no noises, no smoke. The trans and hydraulics work as they should. I am planning on repling the parts taken from the C-120 and put them onto the Electro, and when I am done with the parts, you will see the Electro for sale (or trade). I don't have the room for even 4 tractrors and am not good enough to pretned that I can restore 2 of them, much less one. Before I can start on any of this, I have to get my 416-H a new battery as it's blocking the way for the C-120 to get out of the shed. Stay tuned..... more to come.... T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,589 #2 Posted March 20, 2008 Karl, Maybe you can locate a 16 hp somewhere and make a special C120/160 like Eldon's C520. That hydraulic lift is nice. The plan of giving the Electro some attention is a good one as now you will save a horse and then when you sell it you will have funds for the C120. I know if we were closer together I wouldn't mind by it.
Rollerman 290 #3 Posted March 20, 2008 bell crank with lift indicator bar, hydraulic valve which works, but the spring doesn't work on the lower position. Karl I'm pretty sure I have a few of these laying on the parts shelf if it will save the Electro from the parts cannibal. I hope the C comes around & turns out to be a nice tractor. Engine noises spook me too.
nylyon-(Admin) 7,850 #4 Posted March 22, 2008 Update: Got all the winter gear put away, and the C-120 into the garage. It really stinks that it burns oil and has a rod knock, because after sitting all winter long, I put gas in it and it fired right up!. I removed the seat, fender, running boards and belt guard. All in all this C-120 is in really good shape and solid. Here is what I am going to take from the Electro: I need the bellcrank, part #1 the indicator rod part #14 and the bracket part #3 and the hydraulic valve part #29 which if I could find one off a C-160 that would be even better. Anyway, if anyone has these parts, I will leave the Electro whole if not I plan to swap the parts from the Electro with the exception of part #14, and 3 which are missing on the C-120 all together. That's all for today hopefully I'll get to work on it more tomorrow.

nylyon-(Admin) 7,850 #10 Posted March 23, 2008 Eldon, the C-120 is put back together now. I put a battery in the Electro (not a very good one mind you) and the it was charging it, so the the engine as a whole is pretty good.
