Gator blades for 36" decks ??

Recommended Posts

Doubletrouble

I'm gonna have to replace the blades on both of my tractors soon. They both have 36" decks and I was wondering if someone makes mulching blades for them, like gator for example. Also, just curious, does the side discharge and rear discharge use the same blades?

Thanks, that did help. I don't think I'm gonna double up the blades like he did though.I did find the Gators that would fit on his link. :D

Hey everybody, I'm the one that made the original post about the Gator Blades for a 36" RD deck and running the double blades. I feel bad that i made a potentially dangerous situation for someone, and that some parts got damaged too, so I'm trying to figure out what happened here. I've been mowing with this setup for over a year and haven't had any problems, so either I've been getting away with it or there is something different on the 42" decks that makes this a bad situation.

My yard is pretty rock free, the worst i run over is a couple of sticks, so it's very possible that where I mow this dangerous situation just doesn't come up.

gwgdog66 - how much thread engagement did you have on the nut when the blades were doubled up? As i mentioned in my how-to post, I used a thinner shim type washer in place of the stock very thick flatwasher between the blade and the nut, with this setup I was able to get 100% thread enagagement in the nut.

Any thoughts anybody? We certainly don't want anyone getting hurt or hurting any more parts.

There are actually three thicknesses (number of threads in it) of nuts available that fit these spindles: Hardware stores have two; a regular nut (too thick) and a thin nut, and then there is the Wheel Horse nut which is in between those two thicknesses.

I think it is best to stay with the original WH size nut (still available at TORO) to get the recommended number of threads holding the blade(s) on. It wasn't designed for a lock-nut and maybe needs to be 'not too tight' at the recommended psi so the blades can slip if a rock is accidently hit by the blade.

I've used the dual 45
