kj4kicks 154 #1 Posted March 20, 2008 You may remember I bought this one a few months ago. It came with a 2 stage blower and a 60" deck. The deck is in great shape, and ready to mow. However, the PO had installed a chrome handle on the right side of rear fender. The left side of the fender has rust coming throught the paint. I was going to buff the hood, and found several scratches that are also starting to rust. Also some rust in the black mask. So this one will be the next to get a paint job and a new set of TD decals. It's always something.....
Greg B. 1 #2 Posted March 20, 2008 At the very least, Eldon, you have a terrific starting point. I am unspeakably jealous! Greg B.
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,610 #3 Posted March 20, 2008 I agree with Greg, you have a good starting point. And judging by your work on your other projects, i.e. the C160s, this one should be a good read for us less gifted. I can't wait to see it finished.
kj4kicks 154 #4 Posted March 27, 2008 I picked up all the sheetmetal today, welded up the holes in the fender, and just shot everything with primer. Found out for sure today about something that I had suspected. The blaster guy told me that the red on the hood was powder coated. All of the other panels were painted. When I did the C520 I had suspected that while I was sanding the 520 hood pieces. That one was a '91 hood. Interesting that WH did that. I'll have some new pics in a day or two. Rollerman 290 #5 Posted March 27, 2008 Eldon thats a new one on me too? Seems like they should have done the side cover & beltguard too. I see a lot of tractors the paint peels up in those areas.
Craig Arndt 6 #6 Posted March 30, 2008 The tractor of my dreams. I'm looking for a 520 to restore, I've seen a load of them but I'm going to wait to find one with the 60" deck. Nice find you have there.
kj4kicks 154 #7 Posted April 3, 2008 Shot the red on everything Tuesday afternoon. Most pieces look pretty good, but I'm not thrilled with the hood. I think the overspray in the air made it look a little "dry". Working on wet sanding everything now (just took a little break). I'll re-shoot the hood tonight or tomorrow. The good news is that all evidence of the chrome handle on the fender is gone! The new decals from TD should be hare any day. The weather is warming up here, and after all the rain lately, it will soon be mow time. Better get movin' ....
kj4kicks 154 #8 Posted April 5, 2008 Got a chance to lay on some paint last night. Here's the hood this morning after it was dry enough to handle. More pics HERE I may start wet-sanding Sunday night, but most of it will have to wait until I get back from the road trip.
