Blade Belt Adjustment

Recommended Posts

I just put the deck back together after sanding it and adding the deck brace.

I only cut a portion of the lawn and the deck belt came off, it's still in 1 piece, but rather worn. It wasn't new to begin with.

I assume the spring should be able to pull on the pulleys, so you leave the bolt that holds the one end of the spring to the deck loose enough that it can move, correct?

Only other thoughts are the one pulley was a little banged up, out of round, but it was like that before I did any work to it. It's just kind of squeezed together at some points.

How tight should the big nuts on the top of the spindles that hold the pulleys on be? Again just loose enough to spin freely I assume.

The only other thing I could think of is the spacers (big washers) under the pulleys I had to add. I believe I could only get on on one one side and had 2 on the center.

Any ideas appreciated. The deck seems to be cutting level now for what it's worth. Even on the highest setting, it's lower than I'd like though.

Thanks,

Sam

Never mind, I bought a new 85" belt from Advance Auto part L485 48x850

I finished cutting the grass with no problems. It seems to be level now. I had to use a washer on between the deck and the plate for the 2 bolts on the spindle by the discharge side, just the 2 on the discharge side of the spindle.

Also, on the outer blades, they were a little shorter than the center so, I took the blades Off, and put the thick washers on first, then the blade, then the thin washer, then the nut. That seemed to make them 99.5% level.

The deck is still black, I have the harness in Red. I'm thinking of leaving the deck black now that it's on, I think it won't show the dirt as much.

No back to the fun stuff, sanding and painting the floor boards, etc.

Thanks,

Sam
