L-156 Lawn Ranger deck shaft repair

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to get some opinions on a worn shaft on my mower deck. I just bought it, and upon a thorough inspection I found (among many other things) that there was a lot of slop on the side where the belt goes on. You can move the shaft about an eighth of an inch side to side. So, I bought a new bearing thinking it was bad, but upon disassembly I found that the shaft itself is whats worn.

SO, my question is what are my options? They aren't being produced anymore, so do you guys have new ones machined, hunt down good old ones, or have yours repaired? I thought about having the groove filled with weld and turned to original size, but I didn't know if it's a hardened shaft or not. Any opinions would be apprieciated. Thanks!

Yep; I'm in St. Louis. I just hate to buy a different deck when this one is really solid besides this shaft.
