sgtsampay 117 #1 Posted May 6, 2010 Hi all. As some of you all know, I have own and operate my own personal lawn care. I don't have lots of clients but I do have about 9regulars in the summer and about 15 in the winter. Anyway, right now my only tractor is a 1986 211-5 with a custom hitch and a very nice cutting 36in rear discharging deck. I love this tractor and use it as my main mower and for light towing around the yard. With this in mind, I would like to fine another tractor that would be used as a tiller (I didn't realized how usefull my neightbor's C-120 with a tiller can be and would love to find my own), a plow so I can plow snow in the winter ( I have a very nice snowblower that I use but for the smaller snows, it would be faster and more fun to use a tractor IMHO), pulling (to tow logs, small brushes, ETC.), a grader blade, and other ground and hard work that my current tractor couldn't or can't do. So, I would like to know of a smallesh tractor that could handle what I want and not be used as a mower, and how much I should be looking to pay for this thing. . Thanks guys for your help. C-Series14 15 #2 Posted May 6, 2010 C-Series... 8-Speed... end of story... Seriously though, C-Series 8-Speed. Bought several C-Series many years ago and can't recall having to do much to them except gas and oil... That is just my opinion. You will get alot of opinions, just give it time. What do you mean by "smallish"? Bigger than a C-Series?

sgtsampay 117 #6 Posted May 6, 2010 I would love to go c series or smaller. I really like the 800 series or the 700 series but i don't know if I could tiller with them like the c series. What tractors took an attach-o-matic?
Horse Fanatic 51 #7 Posted May 6, 2010 312-8. Plentiful and inexpensive.
HankB 16 #8 Posted May 6, 2010 Supposedly the geared tractors are better for tilling. For plowing snow, a hydro is great for effortless speed and direction changes as well as lifting the blade. (And yes, I plow snow at full speed.) Better get one of each. :D
IthacaJeff 151 #9 Posted May 6, 2010 I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but why a C-series over a 300-400 series? Though the C-series may have the heavier axles and 8-pinion differentials, so does the 400 series. And the 300s could certainly handle the tasks at hand. Is it not the sheetmetal that is the main difference between the Cs and the 300/400 tractors? Do the Cs have good headlights? I know my 310 lights up the night when I plow at night. Jeff in Ithaca/Enfield The C series have less electrical issues, and is a little simpler to disassemble. I love my 310-8, but my C-101, being basically the same tractor, is just a little simpler and tougher, in my humble opinion.
