Indy w h 5 #1 Posted May 5, 2010 Just went south for a nother 854 WH about a 100 mile round trip kinda down in Jon Bell's stomping grounds (Terre Haute). All it said in the ad was 854 with moldboard plow. I ended up with the plow, deck the 854 and the original paper work. I'll post some pics later Indy

Michael Bullington 5 #11 Posted May 5, 2010 its great to find a ole tractor with all its original paperwork!!
Indy w h 5 #12 Posted May 5, 2010 Ok here's the story... The original owner of the 854 kinda modified it a little. He installed air horns on the hood with a tank/compressor down by the shifter The 2nd owner that had it his son used to mow yards with it in the early 70's. He mowed so many yards that he wore out the deck after that they bought the Bolens plow and started plowing gardens. In 1990 the engine was overhauled (I have the copy of it) and an hour meter was put on it which shows 234 hours. The guy I bought it off of was going to take it to the dump and his grandson said that " grandpa these are collectible mowers" and the rest is now !! So here it is. Enjoy!!! feel free to ask anything !!!! Indy

Lane Ranger 11,395 #17 Posted May 6, 2010 Marshall: Glad you got that 854. I sent a note to the grandson trying to correct his dating of the tractor in the ad. I think he listed it as a 1958 or 56 Wheel Horse. He sent me a note back " My bad " ! It is fun to see the intergenerational activity with these tractors! I liked your posting the other day with your son using the tiller! I am very pleased this tractor went to someone who will appreciate it. Thank you for posting all the neat pictures. You may have to reinstall the air horns as a tribute to the man who saved this tractor and kept it going! :D
puddlejumper 67 #18 Posted May 6, 2010 I was afraid it would be that nice. called yesterday about 9 am he didnt call me back till around noon and said you were on your way there. Since you had a headstart and it was a 100 mile trip for me one way. I knew I couldnt win the race and told him to call me if you didnt take. which there wasnt much doubt I had missed another opportunity. OH well I found 2 702s 2 653s and suburban all in the same barn a while back. hopefully the owner will give me a answer soon. and i am keeping there location a secret. :USA:
Indy w h 5 #19 Posted May 6, 2010 Thanks everybody !!!! It was a great day!!! There's 1 thing I didn't mention The original owner smoked so he had the cigarette lighter installed. If you look on the right side of the steering wheel you will see it Lane: yes the ad said 1958 854wheel horse. That caught me eye so I just had to see it !!!! I took off what was left of the air horns before the pics thanks again. Indy
Indy w h 5 #20 Posted May 6, 2010 My son Cody asked me on the way back from Terre Haute he said "dad how many of these wheel horses are you gonna buy"? My reply was "I'm trying to catch up with Rick V in the ozarks" and Cody said "good luck"!!!! Ahh kids ya gotta love em Indy
