buckrancher 2,694 #1 Posted May 4, 2010 I had been watching a tractor that sat behind the local kabota dealer all winter when ever I was there the owner was not.I finally got a half day off from work this spring and went over there and got to talk to him about it seems the p.o had brought the tractor in because it did not have any power the dealer took the carb off and valve cover then told the po they did not see any thing wrong and that they would have to tear the engine down to find the trouble the po didn't want to put any money in this old tractor so he traded it for some new P.O.S mtd cub crapdet The dealer said all he want to get out of it was what he had in it money wise this is what my$450.00 bought a 1995 314H with 736 hours I fixed a flat rear tire and charged up the battery cleaned the carb and checked the valve clearance changed the oil and gassed her up got her started and by the time I started to adjusted the carb I knew what was wrong with her the baffle in the muffer was broke and blocking the exit hole got a new muffer and now she has lots of power I love it when a plan comes together :D

HankB 16 #3 Posted May 4, 2010 Sweet! I love my 314-H. Looks similar except I have a rear discharge (recycler) deck. I'm surprised the dealer tech didn't figure that problem out. Was it obvious or are you just that good at diagnosing these things? And thanks for the pictures!

jpmcleod 4 #12 Posted May 4, 2010 Buckrancher. Great buy and good finding the problem. Not trying to cloud your good fortune but I had a similar event many years ago. A guy traded in a Chevrolet truck at a local dealer because the engine kept blowing oil. I bought it for a song and a dance and fixed it by changing the valve covers. The truck came with a 350CID with the PCV valve but he put on a set of beautiful chrome 327 valve covers with no PCV. The engine could not breath. I changed the valve covers and drove it over 100,000 miles with no oil blow-by. Just though I would share that as to your good fortune. Good luck with the tractor.
