Can someone tell me the difference?

What makes one a "Raider", and one not? I have the original paperwork on my tractor which identifies it as a Raider 10, but I see no badging or decals naming it so?

Any experts care to weigh in???

Well shoot, I thought I could give you some samples of possible mechanical differences such as rear axle etc. But I cannot find a flip'n thing different other than decals. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this. Sorry I couldn't help :D

I don't get it. My tractor's model # marks it as a Raider 10, but I see nothing on it that says "Raider" anywhere. In fact, I have the dealer brochure for the full 1973 Wheel Horse line, and it doesn't mention "Raider" anywhere either!

I wonder...does the 1972 Raider have decals the identify it as such? Maybe the 73 Raiders were the last ones built in late '72/early '73, but branded as "Model 10s" in keeping with the changeover to the "new" line for '73?

Hi, I had a Raider 10 years ago. It had a "Raider 10" sticker on the dash tower and "Wheel Horse" on the hood. It had a 10 horse Tecumseh w/ electronic ignition, electric clutch, 36 inch side discharge deck, and an 8 speed. It was pretty beat up when I got it and was used mostly for hauling wood. I wound up giving it to a kid up the road. I'm not sure what year it was but I recall that the fender lifted up and had a tool box under it...Glenn :D

The toro site is not the bible, they are wrong now and then, all the 73 tractors are called no name tractors, like 10 auto, 12 8 speed ect.... that was the year AMC bought out Wheel horse, not sure if that had anything to do with the price of tea in china, but if fit's, maybe yours was a late 72 and got 73 decals who knows???? Wheel horse did not keep very good records, and changed things just because.

Wasn't the tachamatic hitch system introduced on the '73 "no name" models? Perhaps the Raider maintained the older implement hitch style.

Not to derail this, but when did the TAM make its debut? I just assumed that the '73 no-name/indentity-crisis models was the beginning of the modern hitch system.

That goes along with my theory....something along that scenario make sense to me.

Curiously, even though the decals don't call it one, you can see in the attached image that even the warranty card is filled out to call it a "Raider 10".

One of life's little mysteries, I guess.

The 1973 10hp 8-speed model 1-0360 was also built in Belgium for the European market using the same 1-0360 model number but used the Raider 10 8-speed name. The serial numbers used for these were quite low at 129xxx where the American built models were 904xxx-973xxx.

The 6-4113 dozer blade at Toro is a 1975 model. If you dig deep enough you will see it was used 1970-1973 only. Same for the 6-9622-7 completeing package. This 1973 tractor sold late in the 1973 model year is evidence of that.

When you see a -7 or other number following the model number subtract 5 from the number and you have the model year. In this case 1972. Suspect this was the intended purpose of the extra digit.

The 1-0502 is a 1972 GT-14 and the last of that model. The Attachment Interchange shows a 1-0502-8 for 1973 and likely the model number used on the 1972 unsold inventory. These models do exist. There is also a 1-0503 listed but have not seen it appear yet.

This idea goes back to my suggestion of the diferrent names for the different market areas? Car manufactures did this same thing.
