There has been considerable discussion of this lately. My chart shows that the GT-14 used a Sundstrand transmission. Older ones used Type-A ATF and later ones apparently switch to 10W-30 or 10W-40 engine oil. There is apparently also documentation stating that the older ones could be switched to engine oil if all of the old ATF was removed (by serial changes of oil.)

The simplest solution is to see what's in it now and match that. I would guess it has ATF as I think that's what those came with from the factory. Type-A may no longer be available but I seem to recall hearing you can use Dexron.

Edit: Here's the other thread: http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?...17912&hl=dexron

The service updates at my local ex-wheel horse dealer stated that Dexron II or Mercon ATF is the now recommended tranny fluid for a model GT 14.

well i started to tare it apart.just gonna repaint and put in new bolts.just a quick paint job.if i had the money i would've had the pieces sandblasted maby next time. its gonna be krylon cherry red i masked off all the decals they wore in good shape.i just hope its not a waste of time. because i dont know if the trans is shot.i will take pics when its done. i was thinking about putting a stack on it. and what do u think it will be worth when its done? thanks, mike
