buster 2 #1 Posted April 30, 2010 Does anybody know what the ground speeds are for the 8 speed 416-8? Also, can you change them by swapping pulleys?
Fiddlestix 0 #2 Posted April 30, 2010 Onan powered versions w/ 23-9.50's are listed at fwd .5-5.5mpf and rev .7-2.6mph. Do not know about Kohler versions.
Pirate 0 #3 Posted April 30, 2010 I remember reading 5.5 mph. If you change the driven pulley on the trans, to a smaller one, you also need to get a shorter belt, so the clutch works ok. I replaced the 6" trans pulley on my 414-8, with a 4.5" one, and a shorter belt, and now have a nice hi gear for getting from A to B faster. I now mow in 2nd gear, high range. and for parts of the back 40 (1/2 acre!) I sometimes use 3 rd gear, hi range. I airateds the lawn yesterday, in 3rd gear, hi range, and was able to do it at a nice low rpm (and noise lever) If you want a bit more speed it is an easy swap.
