8 speed question?

Recommended Posts

Looked at a c-120. The tractor was in really good shape but sometimes you had to fool with the clutch to get it in gear especially low 3rd. The trans worked well and did not make any noise. Is this normal, does something need to be adjusted.

there is no adjustments that i am aware of. I have to do this many times myself. One thing about low range. sometimes you have to let the belt slow down and stop turning before you can change gears. On my two 8 speeds this is most prevalent while in low range

Sorry but speed shifting and WH trannies do not go together :omg:

Check the tabs on the front of the belt guard. They should be very close but not touching the drive belt when the clutch is engaged. If they are too far away from the belt the belt may not stop, making it hard to shift.

I have ran in to this kind of thing when I put a NEW drive belt on. I hate having to break in a new belt (so to speak). But once the belt is seated it all gets better from there.

Sounds normal, sometimes you have to let clutch out slightly so trans gears will line up, :omg: Rick

You should know Rick :omg: How would you compare a new trans to some of the old USED ones you have?

I have three 8 speeds and your problem is common. Like said, just idle down and it goes in easier. A new belt sometimes will do that untill streached. Pull something heavy with the tractor and it will definatelt streach the belt.

I have this happen at time also. I always make sure I'm fully stopped, and double clutch it some times, and it goes right in gear. The 8 speeds are some really good solid transmissions.
