need some help

Hi I've used this sight for a while for reference, the problem I'm having now I can't seem to find an answer so I decided to ask the experts... anyway about a year ago I bought a 1977 C-160 auto, I've spent most of the year getting it in working condition. The problem I'm having is when I'm going up any kind of a hill small or large it sarts to bog down and sputter and almost stall. I've replaced the belt, idler pulley, trans/hydro filter, both axle seals (they were leaking that was fun) and changed the trans oil which came out clean no metal shavings. Anyway if anyone might have a solution or any ideas I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Moose, I'm not a motor man but it sounds like the problem may be with the fuel supply to your engine rather than the tranny. While you were reworking your tractor did you take the carb off and clean it? Another thought is your fuel pump may be starting to fail. I'm sure the real experts will be along to help you - my observations are more from what I've learned reading this site over the past couple years.

Good luck!

Duff :omg:

Thank you for your response I'll try cleaning the carb. I was planning on putting new points on it and a fuel pump, I've replaced just about every thing else. The motor seems to run fine when I disengage the trans when it starts acting up. I'm not much of motor guy either and new to working on a wheel horse. Thanks again I'll let you know what I find. Hey Moose,

You might want to check the screen on the shut-off valve at the bottom of your fuel tank. Sometimes these can get clogged up with junk floating around in the tank.

Well who would have thought the points would affect it like that. I put the new ones on set the gap and it runs pretty good. I'm still gonna take the carb apart and clean it, picked up a rebuild kit today, that can be tomorrows project. Thank you again. Chris

I recently had the same problem also on my c 120 auto. Replaced the condensor and cleaned and re gapped the points. that was all it took. Nice when its easy and inexpensive!
