tookies 0 #1 Posted April 26, 2010 I am having a problem with my D 180 and its Kohler 18 twin.............. I changed out the fuel lines and installed a new fuel pump. The fuel pump was the replacement to the original fuel pumps part #. After installing all the new parts it ran just fine (just like it always did). After the initial test drive I put some fuel in it and then it started running rough. Now it will only run when the choke is set on cold start and the throttle is maxed out. If I go to switch the carb handle over to "run" it stalls out. If I move the throttle over to "slow" speed it stalls out. Even with the choke set on "cold start" and the throttle set on "high" it will run for a short time and then when a load is put on it, as in driving up my driveway which has a grade.....it stalls out. I did notice water in the gas tank which made me think it was just bad fuel. After draining the tank and then putting fresh fuel in it, it still does the above...... Whats the consensus? Could the water in the fuel messed up the carburetor? Any advice would be appreciated......
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,409 #2 Posted April 26, 2010 I would pull the carb and flush it. Then make sure you have a new in line fuel filter. Good luck-

tookies 0 #4 Posted April 26, 2010 Brand new fuel pump, (I matched it to the original part number), brand new 1/4 inch fuel line, new fuel filter, I think water was in the fuel...could that have messed up the carburetor this bad? Its getting fuel as it will run.....only in the "cold start" mode though........
rickv1957 73 #5 Posted April 26, 2010 A good carb cleaning and a kit,10.00,should do wonders,Rick
Kelly 1,031 #6 Posted April 26, 2010 With all the work you did on the fuel system, you may have a small piece of dirt that got dislodged and now stuck in the carb, a good cleaning should take care of it, I highly recomend a Kohler brand kit they just fit better, gaskets are the right sizes I've saved a few bucks buying cheap kits only to buy a good one to do it all over again. The carbs are very simple to work on, after a couple watching me, I think my 9 year old can do one himself now.
tookies 0 #7 Posted April 29, 2010 I pulled the carburetor and the sediment bowl was full of stuff that looked like....fish eggs. So a carb rebuild is definitely due. I ordered one of those $10 rebuild kits and will advise.... Thanks for the input from all, CJ
