stevebo-(Moderator) 8,534 #1 Posted April 22, 2010 I loosened the brass nut that holds the govener shaft in place so I could rotate the throttle linkage arm down and hook the throttle cable to it. The arm looks to be held in place by the brass nut. My problem is that if I tighten the nut too much the shaft does not turn and if I tighten it not enough then it falls out of place. Am I missing something? Any advise here? Thanks-
VinsRJ 723 #2 Posted April 22, 2010 Steve, you're talking about the governor bushing screwed into the block, correct? Did you totally pull the bushing out of the block to undo the linkage? I belive there shoud be a washer between the bushing and block. There is a needle bearing on the apposing side of the rod (in the block) which should be engaged by the governor shaft. If the rod is not seated in the bearing it could bind when the bushing is screwed in. With the bushing just broken loose or tighten down, the governor rod should swing right to left with no resistance or binding. The rod should also positively stop in both directions. When the bushing is tightened down the rod should also move freely in and out a small amount. My manual is at home...... I can look later this afternoon if you need more.
