Engine swap question...

Will a spec 30507D work in place of the original 30108D? Both are K181 engines.

According to the book that I have on Kohler, the 30507D is for a John Deere 110. I don't know if it can cross over to your 857 or not. Sorry I don't have more info. I'm sure that one of the other members will be able to shed more light on the subject.

Nice list, but how does that help me?

From what I can see, the chart indicates that the 30507D is not a Wheel Horse engine. Even though both are K181 engines, the mounting holes for hardware may be different or missing.

You are having the same difficulty as I am. I'm trying to determine if any engine other than a K301S-47421D 12HP engine will fit perfectly on a 1977 C-120 8-Speed.

Problem is Kohler made hundreds of different spec K181s. it is unrealistic to expect anyone (even at Kohler, let alone here) would know what spec #s could be interchanged/substituted.

What you need to do is look up both spec numbers on the kohler site and start comparing part numbers on some key parts.

Most likely differences would occur in the oil pan that would impact mounting...but would be an easy swap from your current motor if the connecting rod was the same number (long and short dipper issue potential)

Also the crankshaft is most likely different. Issue of length on PTO end you probably could use your existing crank if the John deere one is too short.

Electrical system could be completely different/...Mag vs battery ignition but that would be a surmountable (but not super easy problem
