papaglide 542 #1 Posted April 20, 2010 Guys I have the Wheel Horse bug! I found a 1995 314-8 for sale. I would like to know more about the tractor before I make an offer. I do know that it has wheel weights(plastic) and a smallish deck (42"??) and it has Wheel Horse ---- Toro on the side of the hood. Looks to be in good shape. Here are my questions: Is it a quality garden tractor or a riding mower? Do I have to be afraid of the Toro or is it still a pure Wheel Horse? Are attachments readily available? Any bad qualities? What are the good qualities? Thanks a lot for your input. I may be selling another Cub Cadet!!!!!!!!!
nylyon-(Admin) 7,880 #2 Posted April 20, 2010 First Now, do not be concerned at all about the addition of the Toro logo on the hood, that is a 100% Wheel Horse tractor and a very good one to boot. The 314-8 is one of the most versatile tractors out there. It can accept almost any attachment made from 1972 and up and they are readily available. I have seen a 1995 314-8 for sale not too far from me, and if it's the one I'm thinking of, jump on it!
rickv1957 74 #3 Posted April 20, 2010 The 314 is as good of wheel horse as the older ones, most all attachments will fit,Rick
papaglide 542 #4 Posted April 20, 2010 thanks guys. Karl, this was a trade in at a Kubota dealer up here near Lockport NY. The sales guy wanted $950.00 for it. Seemed like a nice tractor but a lot over my price range. I now know that the Toro on the side doesn't mean anyhting and that its a good tractor. Can I assume that all the 300's over the years are pretty equivalent?
nylyon-(Admin) 7,880 #5 Posted April 20, 2010 It isn't the one I am thinking of, depending on the hours and condition, that could be a good deal for that machine. The attachments are the same over the years for the 300 series, with an exception of a 37" Side Discharge deck but that's not in question here.
rmaynard 16,297 #6 Posted April 20, 2010 When I bought my 1977 B-100 back in 1993, the original owner had just purchased a brand new 314-8. I recently contacted him and told him that if he ever wants to sell it, I will be there with cash in hand. He said that he will pass on to the great beyond before he parts with his 314-8. He's close to 80 now, so maybe... Bob
