firemart 0 #1 Posted April 19, 2010 Oh boy, I found a 1975 C-160 for sale for $500. I'm trying to tell myself "no", but I sent the seller a message. If he offers to deliver, since I am sans truck or trailer, I'm in deep you-know-what. (Yes, I have the money, but DW ain't gonna like it.) :omg:
mavfreak 11 #2 Posted April 19, 2010 go for it. The tractor won't complain much and hide it from her. Borrow a buddy's truck. And when the wife finds out...Well there is alot worse you could be doing!
papaglide 542 #3 Posted April 19, 2010 I am glad that I am not the only one hiding my tractors.

W9JAB 156 #7 Posted April 19, 2010 :omg: This would be a Great and Useful topic to explore, "How to get your next tractor without the wife getting wise" Now the old it followed me home, probably won't work. May be
rydogg 186 #8 Posted April 19, 2010 Good luck with the C160, I currently have 2 and they are the ones that get the most use I just go done tilling with one for the last 3 hours but I sure wish it had hydraulic lift cause even with the helper spring my left arm is gonna be pretty sore from lifting the tiller. I noticed the comment on hiding the tractor from the wife, I have been doing that for quite a while and getting away with it since we live on a farm and my wife doesn't go out back to the sheds but recently she walked out there and notice about 10 garden tractors (6 wheel horses) and she couldn't believe that there was that many but thank god she didn't look behind the shed where I keep the parts tractors and the repairables since there is about 12 sitting back there. Usually when I go to pick one up she is sleeping so she has no idea and if she does see me bringing one home I just tell her I took one to a friends place to have him repair it or I am bringing it home to repair for a friend thankfully she forgets pretty quickly :omg:
Horse'n Around 22 #9 Posted April 19, 2010 I am glad that I am not the only one hiding my tractors. I did once or twice when I was collecting my USGI M1 carbines, luckily M1 carbines all look the same to most folks, it allows you to just say... "Oh... Ive had that for a long time. hey you wanna go out for dinner tonight? My treat" John
Kelly 1,033 #10 Posted April 19, 2010 My wife don't care if I get one or two or ten, I guess I'm lucky, but just think if you has say six or eight tractors she might not even know if you bring more home, buy her something that is always nice.

Duff 206 #13 Posted April 20, 2010 Yeah, guys don't sell the wife units short - they're usually onto us well before we even know it. The wise (and happy) ones will play along until just the right moment, then they'll spring on us they know exactly what we've been up to...... Duff :omg:
Operator 7 #14 Posted April 20, 2010 To keep it "on topic" I'll say when I had my C-160 it was good all around unit, hated to trade him off. Go for it! Now on the other topic - I sure am glad I see you guys having the same problem with your wives as I do with mine, "you don't need another tractor!" I haven't told her yet of my trip for a tiller, I'm scared She came walking into my shop last spring and I had the boys all together pulling blowers off and such, and she just hit the roof counting 1 2 3 4 5 6 - 6 tractors!!! you don't need 6 tractors!! you can sell some!! Oh it wasn't good at all. Nice to see I'm not the only one. I can't even talk tractors on the phone. "you don't need that" is what I hear. Bad, bad, bad. Iggy68 28 #15 Posted April 20, 2010 Ever heard the phrase "it is easier to ask for forgiveness then it is to ask for permission"? I live by it. :omg:
porkchop 1 #16 Posted April 20, 2010 :omg: I just bring em home while the wifes at work. I think she,s color blind because I have mowed with red, yellow and green tractors and she thinks there,s only One tractor in the barn. I,d buy the c160 I have one and it,s a workhorse. Operator 7 #17 Posted April 20, 2010 Ever heard the phrase "it is easier to ask for forgiveness then it is to ask for permission"? I live by it. That is exactly what my son said! And he was there when she hit the roof. Since then I have learned not to let them [the Horses] herd together. Randy
DMK855 15 #18 Posted April 20, 2010 Can't help on the C160, but......... As far as the tractor/wife thing goes,......... Upon my 7 year old informing my wife we have 4 tractors to bring home from Pa. and me getting drilled about why we need 7 tractors, I had to question all the purses, shoes, and jewelery!!! Case Closed!! :omg:
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,534 #19 Posted April 20, 2010 My wife is very good about it. At this point she does not know if it is a new one or one I already own.... The only time she gave me a little problem is one day she came home and I was pressure washing the new bass boat in the driveway, she turned and looked at me, shook her head and proceeded to drive into the garage and shut the door. End of story-
mavfreak 11 #20 Posted April 20, 2010 my wife really didn't mind as long as i take care of bills, her, kids, dinner, laundry, vacumn, mow, garbage,...I could go on but you get the picture

KC9KAS 4,744 #23 Posted April 21, 2010 While I was sitting here reading all the "wife/horse" issues to my wife, she said, "why don't you go over to _____ and make him an offer on the horse he has"! I have the permission, but not the $$$. Darn the bad luck!
