Help...steering wheel hub is out of round

Hi,

The center of the steering wheel on my 702 where the cap goes presses in is out of round and it is preventing me from being able to reinstall the center cap on it. Has anyone ran into this problem before and if so what can be done to restore the shape so its round again.When I first got my 702 the cap was on the steering wheel but I noticed one day that it was missing and when I looked for it I saw in laying down near the shifter. I dont know if the steering wheel center distorted because of the daily 105 temps we get here in the summer heat here in Arizona or what, but unless I can find a way to make it round again I cant see how I will be able to reinstall the cap without it looking absolutely horribly hacked. The rest of the steering wheel is in nice shape. I dont want to try anything untill I get some opinions on what to do. I would really appreciate your help with this.

I've got the same problem with a C-120 wheel. Don't know why it's egg shaped, or how to fix it. Hope someone has an answer.

i got a redneck answer just take tooth picks cut em 2 size push the rubber in a circle and heat the rubber lightly with a lighter and it will pop right back in shape :omg:

Machine - or have machined - an aluminum disc that is round and fits inside the hub - this will force the hub back to a round shape. the thickness of the disc will be the height of the pocket in the wheel minus the thickness of the insert.

When the disc is force fit into the pocket to make it round, the finishing insert can be glued to the aluminum disc.

Its what I would try.

Trying to heat and reform this area may be just a temporary fix until the next 105 degree day. The disc will provide a permanent shape to the pocket in the wheel.

Great idea, if need be I can remove a bit off of the back side of the disk if it is nescessary too. Now to see what it will take to get the hub area surrounding the to move enough to allow the disk to fit back in. I have not tried to see how rigid it is, I will test it out... cautiously I sure dont want to break or chip the surface of the steering wheel anywhere. Ill put it out in the sun first thing in the morning and see if that helps, I have a feeling its what caused the problem to begin with.Its only in the low 80s for now , but it might warm it up enough to help.

The center holes in those steering wheels get distorted when the rim of the wheel gets pushed down. (from climbing on & off of the tractor)

Supporting the underside of the rim while pressing downward on the hub will usually take most of the distortion away. (warm the center cap area with a heat gun)

The two-spoke C series wheels suffer from the same problem.
