handyman 1 #1 Posted April 16, 2010 I have a K series 14hp that this spring seems to be leaking oil at the governor shaft seal. Is there a gasket or seal that can be changed.
markslawnmowerworld 4 #2 Posted April 16, 2010 from what i remember there is no gasket or seal on the governor shaft it is machine fit. the governor pin stop uses a plain washer. :omg:
pfrederi 18,696 #3 Posted April 17, 2010 Mark is right, no gasket or seal on the governor shaft. I do believe that the washer on the stop pin is a copper one (sort of a crush seal)
rick 257 #4 Posted April 17, 2010 The brass nut that the shaft goes through could be worn, as could the steel governor shaft. I would put money on the nut being worn more than the shaft. Have you checked the breather to see if it working properly, and not allowing pressure to build up in the crankcase? The engine should run with a slight vacuum in crankcase. Excessive blow-by from worn rings could also cause pressure in the crankcase.
handyman 1 #5 Posted April 18, 2010 I didn't even think of the breather. Come to think of it, it does kind of get forgotten.
