aj197816134 0 #1 Posted April 15, 2010 Hello All. I have a freshly rebuilt K321. I put on a BRAND NEW carb, gaskets etc. I have mowed for over 3 hours with no problem all the sudden the tractor started bogging down, and sputtering, finally it would stall. I could get the choke to keep it alive but then it quit. I pulled the NEW air filter, and had some gas tricking out of the carb. WTF? lol I am thinking possibly a bad fuel pump? But could be dirt in the carb? I did clean the tank very well over the winter. What are your thoughts, has anyone had this happen?
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #2 Posted April 15, 2010 Aside from pulling the air filter, have you tried anything else? Checking fuel flow to and from the pump would be a great start, and perhaps dropping the float bowl off the carb to check for dirt would also be a wise move. How about water????? Is the gas can you use to fill your tractor clean? :omg:
aj197816134 0 #3 Posted April 15, 2010 Gas is Fresh, and clean. I only use 89 Octane in my equipment now a days. I am going to drop the bowl in a few minutes and see whats happening. I have so much time in this machine, and excitement to run it. I posted because I dont want to miss something simple because its my own equipment.
aj197816134 0 #4 Posted April 16, 2010 So I went out, found some fine small black debris in the float bowl. I cleaned out and added a small inline KOHLER filter to the fuel line. Fired up and it ran good with no load. Once I engaged the PTO or the Transmission it started to miss again. but will idle with no load and run WOT with no missing or hesitation
rickv1957 75 #5 Posted April 16, 2010 Sounds like you still have a fuel problem,a good carb cleaning cant hurt,Rick
aj197816134 0 #6 Posted April 16, 2010 That just stinks, Brand new carb, and I have to take it apart.
rmaynard 16,301 #7 Posted April 16, 2010 My guess is that the float valve is sticking open when the engine gets hot and it floods. Bob
aj197816134 0 #8 Posted April 16, 2010 Just a cleaning, or should I put a kit in'? See what i noticed at first was the float was either open letting fuel spill out or the pump was over pressuring?
520HC 208 #9 Posted April 16, 2010 If you have a new carb, I would check out electrical before taking carb apart. Check points and wire to the points. make sure your coil is not grounding out against the hood.
Don1977 605 #10 Posted April 16, 2010 I just had surging mowing down hill, would clear up going back up. Raised the hood to see if I was about out of gas. The gas tank had air pressure coming out of the vent hole. The under side of the hood was down on the gas cap not letting it vent.
aj197816134 0 #11 Posted April 20, 2010 IT'S FIXED: I cleaned the carb out, and it seems to be running much better. I ran it again for about 45 min with no problems. Lets hope I have it solved. I added a filter to the line. Thanks again
