barns1 57 #1 Posted April 14, 2010 My 1988 414-8 is cutting out when I cut the grass. It runs good until I get on an angle, then every once in awhile it will sputter and then catch itself and run fine. I'm thinking either dirt in the fuel system somewhere or looking at the safety switch on the seat as it appears to be wore down pretty far. Your valued opinion please. Tim 97 #2 Posted April 14, 2010 bypass the safety switch then recreate the situation that causes the sputtering, and see what happens if you safety conscious, take the mower belt off so the blades don't spin,
stevasaurus 23,279 #3 Posted April 15, 2010 Gary...I am stuck in the 60's...but all of these horses are belt driven. Sometimes I notice that the traitor gets "ahead of it self" and the belt drive catches up. Could this be what you are talking about? If it is...it is normal and no worry. You would notice it more going down hill...would not notice it going up hill. Just saying it could be normal. :omg:
rickv1957 74 #4 Posted April 15, 2010 Gary, could be either problem you mention,a cleaned fuel system would be a great start and go from there,Rick

dobeleo 7 #6 Posted April 15, 2010 Do you have an oil sensor on the back off the block, could try by-passing it
