Confused99 2 #2 Posted April 12, 2010 better not get your fingers too close to that thing. Got any more pics of it? Jason
TheUnknownCat 0 #3 Posted April 12, 2010 No joke about the fingers, eh? I'm building a hopper for it tomorrow to help me resist playing with the sharp, shiney spinney things. I'll post pics.
GlenPettit 1,717 #4 Posted April 13, 2010 This is the MacKissic Shredder (still made and available new: $1800, or used about $250). Depending on the screen size, will chop straw down to perfect 1" pieces with a standard 1" screen, or into almost dust with the 1/2" screen. Can chop a square bale of straw in about 90 seconds, hand feed.
VinsRJ 723 #5 Posted April 13, 2010 No danger there :omg:
TheUnknownCat 0 #6 Posted April 15, 2010 Okay, gag's over -here's the finished chopper. I had my wife video that because it looked so stupid. I had to cut some straw as I did, so that I'd know how to design the hopper. I told her, "Honey, I'm fixing to have to do something really stupid, so I think you should film it." Anyway, I finished it a few days ago, but I'm racing tomorrow afternoon's promised rains to get a few hundred tobacco plants in, so that delayed the pics: This thing really works well, and the price was right, I figure I used about seventy-five cents worth of welding rod, and the rest is junk. The reason it is yellow is because that paint was free too. The slickest piece of junk is the attachment arm -it's the bracket from one of those portable basketball hoops -works like it was made for the job. I can't take credit for the overall design though -I got the idea from an old farm publication that showed how to add an electric motor to a push mower to make a straw chopper. Confused99 2 #7 Posted April 15, 2010 Looks safer now, but I think OSHA would still have a problem with it . Get a vids of the finished product in operation? Jason
TheUnknownCat 0 #8 Posted April 15, 2010 Well if OSHA decides to pop by, they'll have to follow the same rule as everyone else -bring beer. I'll try to remember to make a vid the next time I'm chopping straw.
Confused99 2 #9 Posted April 15, 2010 I'll try to remember to make a vid the next time I'm chopping straw. Sweet, look forward to it. Jason
