416-8 or C160

Recommended Posts

I'm considering buying a tractor and am looking for opinions on which may be better; either a 416-8 or C-160 Hydro? Both are in similar good condition and for the sake of argument are priced fairly.

thanks in advance

I would think it will depend on what kind of work you want to do with the tractor? Just mow grass or a lot more? They both are great machines. And will do anything.

I have a tiller, 50" grader, set of cultivators, single bottom plow, single stage snow blower and eventually I'd like to get a plow for the front. So I guess I want to do as much as I can with it but probably not much if any mowing. My garden for plowing and cultivating is probably less than 1/8th acre.

thanks!!

HI--for ease of maintenance and cost of repairs I would lean towards the 416---as long as it was a Kohler single cylinder 16. If its the Onan I would go for the C160 which I know has the Kohler one lunger. The hydros work very well but can become very expensive to fix should you end up with a transaxle issue.

I agree, on the engine part if the 416 has a Onan I'd go with the 160 Onan is a great engine but can be touchy and cost way more to repair, I like the stick tractors for working, but hyd. lift is nice, it's your money.

I have both and think the C160 is more solid as far as the sheet metal goes.
