D200 Pump Questions

How can you tell if its the pump or the motor on the transaxle is bad? Is there a way to determine the cause of ALL the hydraulics not working? It moved when I turned out the push valve and it would not moved with it turned in. It had plently of fluid. No water in the transaxle. The splines on the coupler are good also.

Another concern is I changed the filter and drain the transaxle case but I can't determine what type of oil it is. I would like to use the same but I don't know of a way to tell for sure if its ATF or 10x30 there is a SLIGHT and I mean slight red coloration. Does the oil break down far enough to cause a failure of this kind? ANY ASSISTANCE would be greatly appreciated.
