k161 fuel in the oil

Recommended Posts

I'm getting lots of fuel in the crankcase of the k161 on the 702. Anyone ever run across this before? The motor runs good and strong, no smoke. If I don't use the tractor for a few days it will empty the fuel tank and dump it right in the crankcase. Probably something simple, but I've never run across this before. :omg:

Could either be a bad float, or needle and seat in the carburetor. Sometimes the floats will get a pinhole and fuel gets inside. Makes the float heavier and keeps the needle off the seat, allowing fuel to get in the crankcase. Then, too, the needle may not be sealing to the seat. If it were mine, I would overhaul the carburetor, being sure to replace the float.

I should have added, carb is spotless, new needle and seat this past winter and the float is like new. I took the carb apart a few days ago and it was spotless and float level is spot on, at that time I put about a half gallon of fuel in the tank and changed the contaminated oil, ran it for 10 minutes and put it away. I checked the fuel tank today and what do ya know? Its empty. I think I'll have a look at that fuel pump. The motor has no issues with how it runs, it runs perfect and fires up instantly.

I'd bet its leaking hrough the fuel pump into the engine.

To lose that much gas through the needle valve you'd have fuel dripping all over the floor.

I'd guess at the diaphram in the fuel pump having a hole - which is really bad 'cause you cant buy a kit for them anymore. If its the original pump, it will be a pulse pump. If the cam on your engine has a lobe on it to drive a mechanical fuel pump (most do) you could replace it with one of those.

sounds like the feul pump to me if the problem was in the carb you would have gas

on the floor not in the motor as the gas would run out the air cleaner before it got

inside the crankcase could be a hole in the diapham or a small crack in the alum. housing hold the diapham up to a light and stretch it while looking for a pin hole

you can find the diapham material on e-bay I have some if you need to buy a piece

Definitely sounds like the fuel pump diaphragm. I think NAPA has an electric pump that works with these engines. You wire it to the ignition coil. I have the part number but it is at my office so I'll post it tomorrow.

Uncle BO

Ken

In the past the chevy's 6cyl used to fill the crankcase with gasoline the problem was 95% the diaphram in fuel pump. I'm dating myself they were in the 50's& 60's
