Thanks to Google...

12 HP (K301's) & 14 HP (K321's) are the hardest Kohler engines to tell apart. Easiest way is to pull the air filter and look inside the carb throat and see if there's a "30" cast inside the crab throat.

The only differences between a K301 & K321 is the K321 has 3-1/2" bore and the 301 is only 3-3/8", the 301 has a #26 carb & the 321 is the #30; and the K301 has a 1-1/8" intake valve and 1-3/8" exh. valve and the K321 should have 1-3/8" valves on both intake & exh.

Where on Google did you find that distorted chunk of information, Mike? :D

How's Charlie Brown say it?.......

:omg: Good Grief! :D

Well if it is wrong, sorry folks. :omg:

It was from some website about tractors. Somebody answered a question about the differences.

If you look at the PTO side of the block most, not all big Kohlers have the size cast into them K241, K301, K341, ect.... just above the crank, I have heard that some K241's 10hp engines were bored over at the factory and used 12hp pistons but that is just hear say.

ya i just did more in depth search and found the k-301 have a 3.38 inch bore and the k321 have a 3.5 inch bore other than that not sure how to tell them apart expecially if its been bored over

i have a 12 with a bad block could my parts work in a 14 besides the piston or rod

Even though the stroke is the same, the K301 crank will not work in a K321 (or K341) because it's not balanced the same. If you install a K301 crankshaft in a K321 without having it balanced, it will vibrate and eventually shake itself apart.

At no time do I ever trust "bolt-ons" (carbs, blower housings, etc) when identifying engines. I have seen quite a few Kohlers and have yet to be able to positively identify some of them without opening them up and measuring. (the block part number is usually cast on the flywheel side under the bearing plate and can sometimes be used for I.D. too)

As far as the same-size valves in a K321 go - the early models had the small exhaust valve just like the K241 & 301. :omg:

No..... the crank is balanced for the lighter piston/rod ass'y on a K301.

I can't set it because I am not interested - nor am I close enough to you to consider being interested. (you're in Indiana, right?)

The best I can tell you is open yourself to any and all offers and take the best one you get for each tractor. :omg:
