Electric lift Help

The electric lift on my 73 Wheelhorse 10 doesn't lift. It does lift a little but is very choppy and the cylinder only extends a couple of inches. I'm thinking bad brushes but wanted to get some imput form someone that has worked on one before I take it apart.

Maybe just a good cleaning would do wonders,Rick
